• Biology Safari: Journey Through Sri Lanka

Open to ALL Ontario High School Students!

Known as the Emerald Isle, Sri Lanka is considered a pearl in the Indian Ocean located just off of the lush southern tip of India.  You will be transformed by your interaction with the natural and cultural environments as you explore biodiversity and population dynamics in the vast array of ecosystems throughout the island.  Multiple safari trips and game drives at the Yala National Park immerse you in the world of elephants, leopards, and native birds to help you gain a better understanding of the various concepts of genetics and the diversity of living things. Fall in love with the baby elephants at the Pinnawal Elephant Orphanage! Explore the varied terrain of lakes, rivers, mountains, caves and cloud forests and walk through the acres of tea plantations while studying the different types of plant systems.

Our adventure begins in Colombo with time for rest before heading south to the charming colonial town of Galle. The old town of Galle and its fortifications are a UNESCO site founded in the 16th century by the Portuguese.  From Yala National Park take the train north to the mountain regions of Nuwara Eliya on one of the most scenic train rides in Asia. Make your way through the sacred UNESCO sites of Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya.  You will finally reach the exotic city of Kandy, filled with bazaars and temples including the Temple of the Tooth, one of Buddhism’s holiest sites.  Bear witness to the amazing evolution from ancient times to now. Get ready for this unique learning opportunity and an adventure of a lifetime!
